Chrystal Sawyer was raised in Liberty, North Carolina.
She heard her 1st bluegrass song around the age of 6.  Her first memories of bluegrass include listening to songs by the “Osbourne Brothers,” “The Louvin Brothers,” “Emmylou Harris,” “Dolly Parton,” “The Singing Rambos,”  and “Ricky Skaggs.”

Chrystal decided to try out her singing voice at about the age of 5.
She found singing was easy and fun.  Her grandmother and her aunts would get her to sing for friends and relatives.  She graduated from Southeast Guilford High School.  Chrystal’s high school years were very difficult and trying after she lost her father at only 16.  Her friend, Donna Hughes, wrote a song about Chrystal losing her father, entitled “Chrystal’s Song,” which has now become one of “DJ’s Hot Picks in Bluegrass NOW.”  Chrystal was very fond of her dad, Ray Sawyer.  Her mother Jewel, has been very supportive of her music.

Chrystal was in choral ensembles in high school, and sang in various churches.  She sang at a venue called “Fiddler’s Cove,” weekly for 10 years, in her hometown, gaining her a huge local following.

Many folks have noticed the similarity in Chrystal’s voice with Alison Krauss.  She became inspired by Alison and the Cox Family immediately, the moment she heard them in the early 90's.  Chrystal has been a member of the “High Lonesome Strings,” a bluegrass association in North Carolina, for many years.  She can often be seen singing at the meetings in various jam sessions, blowing people away with her awesome talent.  Chrystal got the opportunity to open for her childhood inspriration, “The Osbourne Brothers,” in 1995 at a concert at Rockingham County High School.
Chrystal enjoys outdoor activities, like riding her four wheeler, or playing with her cats.

The highlight of Chrystal’s career, has been the making of her new CD, self-titled “Chrystal Sawyer.”  The CD was made at Scott Vestal’s Studio in Greenbriar, TN, called “Digital Underground.”  Chrystal was excited when she heard from friend Donna Hughes, that they were going to be able to get Adam Steffey on mandolin, Scott Vestal on banjo, and Clay Jones on guitar, on their albums.  Even more exciting news came for Chrystal later when she discovered that she would also be getting Randy Kohrs on dobro, Jim Van Cleve on fiddle, and also Ron Stewart on fiddle. Clay Jones was instrumental in getting these fine musicians for Chrystal's album.  Zak McLamb came into the studio and performed on bass, and then Chrystal even got Steve Gulley to come in and sing harmony.  You cannot go wrong in purchasing this masterpiece of extraordinary talent.  The musicians are all geniuses, and Chrystal’s singing is first-rate.  You will never get tired of hearing this extremely delightful voice.  Chrystal will continue to pursue her music full force, and with this new album, will certainly gain thousands of new loyal fans.
